After *cough* breaking the PSU connector on my notebook, Acer repaired it
for free very promptly.
Thier staff are very knowledgable and nice to talk to.

a gimmick?

Gimmik. Google fo 'disable hyperthreading' and check out peoples reasons.

Go for Centrino (Pentium-M) or AMD-64
