NOT RELEASE SP3 of MSOFFICE!!!

S

Sven Van de Velde

Microsoft,

May I strongly advise NOT to release further SP3 of MSOFFICE?

My MsAccess application developed using MsAccess 2003 SP2 is not working
anymore after the upgrade to Office SP3! The only resolution to my problems
were to UNINSTALL MsOffice 2003 and Reinstall to level SP2!!!!!!!!!!

I have searched SEVERAL NEWSGROUPS, including this one to find resolutions
to the following problems:

MSACCESS 2003 SP3 was crashing when I did the following actions (using my
SP2-level DB):

- Run certain Queries, which were NOT complicated at ALL!

- View certain tables. I have discovered that tables which contain columns
which use Combo Boxes (thus also queries) caused the crashing. So I HAD TO
REMOVE ALL THE COMBO BOX LOOKUPS FROM THE TABLE DEFINITIONS!!!!

- MOST of my FORMS where able to open for design, BUT WHEN SAVING THE FORM,
MSACCESS CRASHED. Thus, I was UNABLE to MODIFY my FORMS using MSACCESS 2003
SP3!

NOTE that in order to avoid useless advice which I have already tried to
resolve the above problems, which were ALL not successful, I list the
following actions I have already taken:

- use MSACCESS /DECOMPILE : Result: MSACCESS wasn't even able to open the
Database.

- Reimport EVERYTING into a NEW .MDB file using MSACCESS 2003 SP3: This did
not work neither. MSACCESS 2003 SP3 Crashed doing this as well!!!

Microsoft,
How are you going to solve my business problem? I mean, My MsAccess
application CANNOT RUN on SP3, which causes it to be IMPOSSIBLE for me to use
further the application on several platforms of clients of EDS!!!! I mean,
when our clients have Office SP3, I will not be able to deploy my database on
their systems anymore.

I am very upset about this.

Sven, I'd love to talk with you about this in more detail. There are a
number of SP3 issues that we know about which we're currently in the process
of cutting a fix for. I'd love to understand whether the problems you're
hitting are among the ones we already know.

Can you send me an email?
(e-mail address removed)

Thanks!
-Zac.

For those who are interested in the solution here, the Access team is working
on an update to Office 2003 SP3 which we'll be releasing shortly. We've
verified with Sven that the update fixes the issues that he describes below.
I can't give you a specific date, but I can tell you that the patch will be
ready soon. We'll announce availability on the Access blog when this patch
is ready for download.

Thanks!
