I have tried to use a USB portable device which is
recognized by the device manager and showing in the
files, but not showing on the 'My Computer' screen. When
I click on it in the files list, I get a restriction pop-
up saying this operation has been canceled due to
restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact
your system administrator. I am the only administrator
listed and the only user. Help! Thanks

Is this a work computer or a home computer you own? If
its from work and your using at home. They may restrict
this operation. If its your computer. You are definately
not logged in as the administrator. Go into the control
panel and check to make sure in the User Accounts section
you are not setup for a limited account.

Thanks for replying Buzz, but unfortunately that was too
easy for me to overlook. I did however look once again
just to make sure that I am the listed Administrator. I
do use my computer at home only. I have never set a
password and I can control alot of administrator tasks,
except for this new task of which I just recently tried.
There may be other tasks that restricts me, but are
unknown at this time. Any and all input would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks again.

Try setting a password and reboot. Sometimes programs don't recognize you as
having Administrator privileges without a password.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you,
