sent this before, but no answers, so hoping new subject line will catch
someone's eye

all of the sudden - win xp pro will not read any of the files or run any
cd's on my 2 cd rom drives - can someone help me figure out how to get them
working? I uninstlled and reinstalled them thru devices - but still not
working - when I put a cd in - the light goes on .... stays on red and if I
try to open up the cd in explorer - I can click on the drive letter, but
nothing shows up in the right section for files.....it's like its
recognizing the drive, but nothing on the cd's

HELP

Kelly - thanks for asking - I thought it was just my 2 cd drives - but my A
(floppy) drive is not working and neither is my usb sandisk for my digital
camera!!! I just noticed this this morning - I'll check all the cables - but
what is a mobo? also - when I go into my computer - all 4 removable devices
show up - and if I put a cd into one of the cd drives - it acts like its
reading it - the light goes on - I can even hear it 'whirl' - but it just
won't 'see' anything on it - when I put a disk into the sandisk or the a
drive - and click on either of them, however, it says 'not accessible -
incorrect function'. any help you can give me is sure appreciated!

thanks for answering me - I'm going nuts! :)

ok, just wanted to follow up with the FIX

apparently someone had tried to install a cd writing program to winxp
pro..... anyway - I had to UNINSTALL ALL CD writing programs (so I don't
know if I even have one now!) boot up with a clean msconfig (followed
directions found on the internet) rebooted, held my breath and BAM! all my
removeable drives are now working!!!!!

YEAH!!!! persistence pays off ... and a scathing letter has been sent to my
entire family that my computer is now OFF LIMITS - they can bring their
laptops if they want to play on a computer when they visit.... as EVERY time
they stay - something happens...

anyway - wanted to do a follow up!
