Not print fields that are not edited.

Hello,

I am working with a word 2003 template ( business fax for example ).
When you load them up there are fields can be edited that look like
this: [Click here and type subject].

The way it is now, if a user does not edit all of the "fields" they
will print out as [Click here and type subject].

I would like it when a document is printed, that all fields that are
not edited to not print ( be blank ).

Is there any way to accomplish this?

Thanks for your time!
Danny

Hi Danny,

The fields are probably MacroButton fields (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm for a description
of how they're set up). You can tell by pressing Alt+F9 and looking at the
field codes, which will look like the one near the beginning of that
article.

If that's the case, then you can remove them by opening the Replace dialog,
entering

^d macrobutton

in the Find box, leaving the Replace With box empty, and clicking the
Replace All button. The ones that have been edited won't be fields any
longer, the MacroButton field having been replaced by the typed text, so
they won't be affected.

After you print, if you want the fields back in place, just click the Undo
button.

All of this can be recorded into a macro so it can easily be repeated.
