genuine....how is that?

It's probably a setup issue; start by discussing it with Dell
first, IMO. You might help a lot of others by alerting them to
whatever is goign on.

I am doing a reinstall of XP Pro with the original Dell disk on an
Optiplex. I am getting a similar message. I have just wasted a about
3 hours trying to reinstall in various ways so that I can get this
validated by Microsoft Genuine Advantage and continue to get Windows
Updates. I hope Dell will have an answer tommorow.

Bill Gates really is prompting normal, sensible, people to reverse
engineer Windows so that we who work, mending computers, do not waste
huge amounts of time. It seems that the Microsoft databases that
should validate genuine, licensed, software do not work properly. I
believe we have similar delights in store with Office soon....

Call Dell support and have them sort out the problem, they are your source
to fix your problem.
If enough people complain to the major OEM's that there is a problem with
the WGA validation process denying legitimate systems from being activated
on the first boot up, the problem will be fixed.
