Not finding object in list

I don't see a better place to post this. Equation Editor is not showing up
in the Insert->Object list. It is installed, I re-installed it to be sure.
How do I add it to the list?

I had a similar problem when I installed the Equation Editor in Word
2000. I recall that even though it showed as "Installed on first
use", I had to select "Run from CD" before it would actually install.
I might even have had to close Word and restart before it appeared in
the Insert->Object list (or maybe I tried that after my first
attempt!)

Where did you select "Run from CD"?

Where did you select "Run from CD"?

Click the drive icon to the left of "Equation Editor" and you should
see a list which includes "Run from CD"

Um.. I don't have an icon for EE. Do you happen to know the file name?

Sorry, I don't. In Office 2000 Pro, it can be found under "Office
Tools" ... but when you tried to install the Equation Editor did you
do so via Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs?

If not, this is the route to go! When you've selected Microsoft Office
2000, click "Change" (in Win XP) or "Add/Remove" (in Win 98). Wait
for the screen to show "Repair Office", "Add or Remove Features",
"Remove Office". Select: "Add or Remove Features".

This will take you to the "Update Features" screen - where you should
see a list with an icon to the left of each item. The one you want is
"Office Tools" - which has a CD on the icon! When you click the +
sign to the left of that icon, the list will expand. (If you click
the CD icon, you will get the same context menu/pop-up list/legend as
mentioned in my previous post.)

However, if you have a standalone version of Word 2000, I'm not sure
what the procedure might be. It may be too much to hope that it would
be somewhat similar! But since you seem able to get to an installer
for "Equation Editor" somehow, how did you get there, and what are the
options you see on your screen? Did you try a right-click?

Jon, Hillary never actually said so in so many words, but she's
talking about running the Office 2000 Install (i.e., Set-up)
program again. One of the first options you'll have is
"Add/Remove Programs". Choose that option, then go down to Office
Tools and select Run from CD under Equation Editor.

Boy, I wasn't very helpful with that advice! Two things I should
have said differently:

1. The MS Office Set-up program doesn't say "Add/Remove
Programs". It says "Add or Remove Features".

2. I don't know why I said "Run from CD". Not only is that option
not listed, it wouldn't be the one you want if it WAS listed. The
option you should select is "Run from My Computer".

Sorry for any confusion my first response may have caused.

Shall we start over? Here's Jay Freeman's version:

Go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, select Microsoft Office, and
click the Change button. In the first page, select "Add or Remove Features."
On the next page, expand "Office Tools." Select Equation Editor and set it
to "Run from My Computer." Click the Update button, and insert the Office CD
when prompted.

The OP's initial query indicated that he had "installed" and
"reinstalled", so I took a guess (from his subsequent posts,
apparently not a good one!) that he, too, had initially chosen the
same route I had.

Sorry for any confusion I might have inadvertently caused!

As an aside, Jay's route was the one I had followed when I first tried
to install Equation Editor. I assumed that because the legend showed
that it was "Installed on first use" I should use the "Run from My
Computer" option and Update. That was the route that didn't work for
me, on my Win XP box, while the "Run from CD" option and Update did!

However, after seeing your post, Suzanne, I decided to install
Equation Editor on my Win 98 box - and the "Run from My Computer"
choice was successful. Go figure!
