Not enough system restore points

M

Mary

I needed to do a system restore today as for some reason the system
crashed and refused to run properly after that.

When I went to system restore I saw there were only 2 points - one
today and one yesterday.

I would feel more comfortable with more. My shadow volume details are:

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 6.139 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 8.70
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 25 GB

Logic says to me if I have 25GB reserved I should have 7 or 8 restore
points saved.

What is the difference between Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space and
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space?

Any help appreciated

Mary

Hi, Mary,

Do you leave your system on 24-7, or shut down every night?
If on 24-7, you may only have a couple of points showing, as updates are
installed.

If you shut down every night you should have one for each starting day.

Allocated shadowcopy storage space is what the system reserves for actual
use.
Maximum shadowcopy storage space is what is available if needed.

Usually the system would do a system restore point automatically (if set to
do so), at boot-up; some software installs actually do a system restore
point as well, prior to installing new software, but you can also do your
own manually such as before software installation if the installer doesn't
do this automatically.

Note, depending on the space you allocate for SR, it will delete the oldest
restore points, to make room for the new ones.
