Not enough server storage... error

I don't know what has changed but I can no longer access files from Computer
B to Computer A on my LAN. I can go from A to B but not the other way
around. Both A & B are running NIS 2007. Both have a rule defined to allow
LAN access to and from any computer in the range 192.168.15.100-150.
Computer A is running XP Pro SP2. B is running XP Media Center SP2. Both A
and B have folders they share to the network. This used to work. I have no
idea why it quit. I've goggled this error and all I see are what appear to
be old messages about IRPstacksize which XP is supposed to manage
dynamically now as I understand it. Any ideas on how to isolate this would
be GREATLY appreciated.
 
I don't think so. The article applies to Windows NT, not XP. And this used
to work and now doesn't. Based on that, I doubt if I need to do something
with IRPstacksize. Also, if this were it, it wouldn't work going from
Computer A to B but it does.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command error -

This error indicates that you are falling foul of the IRPStackSize bug.
The problem is on the machine you are attempting to connect to, not the
machine where you see the error message. On the computer you are
attempting to connect to, check the event viewer for an event ID 2011.

Usual fix : You need to fix a parameter called IRPStackSize

On the computer you are attempting to connect to, Set the IRPStackSize
back to the default (15 ). Perform the following steps:

1. Start regedit.
2. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters.
3. Double-click IRPStackSize (or if this registry setting doesn't
exist, create it with type DWORD and ensure the case is correct).
4. Change the base to decimal, set the value to 15, and click OK.
5. Reboot the computer.

Norton AV is usual suspect for breaking it. There's a KB article about

Thanks for the info. I determined it was the serving computer that had the
problem. I confirmed that NIS 2007 was the problem by disabling it and then
trying to access the files. It worked fine. Here's the confusing part.
When I enabled NIS 2007 again, I was STILL able to access the files. I
don't get it.

I don't get it either, but since I consider Norton product Spawn of
Satan, I'm not surprised. Glad you got it fixed.

Trust him - and I - this is it. Alter the IRPStackSize on the computer that
did NOT show the error message. It still keeps getting broken in XP by some
poorly-behaved antivirus programs.
