Not able to send or recieve e-mails in Windows Mail

I have not been able to recieve or send e-mails since 6/26/08 in Windows
Mail. The problem seemed to have started when the Windows Updates from that
day were installed. I get the following message:

Some errors occured while processing the requested tasks. Please review the
list of errors below for more details.

Subject 'Test', Account: 'ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net', Server:
'imailhost.worldnet.att.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Error Number: 0x800CCC15

Account: 'ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net', Server:
'ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Error Number: 0x800CCC15

Account: 'mail.verizon.net', Server: 'mail.verizon.net', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC15

Since, the problem started after the Updates were installed, I really
believe somehow they were the problem. I had hoped the Windows updates which
were installed today would have solved the problem but no such luck. Any
ideas?

Windows Updates can bring out incompatibilities in security software.
Which antivirus, anti-spyware, and firewall software are you running?

I am using Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 on my laptop for
antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall on my Lap Top.

Trend Micro security software is one of the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. As a minimum, turn off any interaction your
security software has with email. You may want to consult this
article as to why that is safe:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement, do a trial uninstall of Trend Micro, and let us
know if that made a difference. You can always reinstall, if it
made no difference.

Like Ken, I have not been able to receive or send e-mail since approximately
6/26/08 in Windows Mail. I get the following message: Subject 'Fw: Embrace
your destiny with "Wanted", Account: 'mail.wavecable.com', Server:
'mail.wavecable.com', Protocol: STMP, Port 25, Secure (SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CC19

I use Trend Micro Pencillin as my anti virus software.

Trend Micro security programs are among the top three for causing
problems with Windows Mail. The only way to prove or disprove
whether it is the culprit is to do a trial uninstall of your antivirus.

Another solution is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail because it is
less prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus
programs.
In any case, your antivirus must be configured not to scan emails.
For more on this, see
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Thanks, for your advice. I turned off the Trend Micro Firewall, turned on
the Vista Firewall and the e-mail problem I was having went away.
