not able to determine that disk is inserted

I recently inserted a disk into the cd/dvd drive and received the following
message
'please insert a disk into drive g'. I tried both CDs and DVDs and get the
same message. I did not have these problem previously, I have used this
device without incident for years. From the control panel I click on System
Porperties, then Hardware, then Deive Manager then pick the correct
DVD/CD-ROM device and then click properties I am informed that 'The device
is working properly'. When I open up 'My Computer, right click on the
device and then click on 'eject' the tray for this device opens. I have tried
uninstalling the driver and then rreinstalling it however I keep getting the
same results, no matter what disk I put in I get the message 'please insert a
disk into drive g'. A have another device that is a CD/DVD burner and when I
put thhe disks that were not recognized in drive g into the burner there
are no problems. Is this a software or hardware problem ? Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.

ok go to my computer and select the drive that have the probleme and do a
right click on it and go to properties and go on the tab "auto play", and
make sure that there is a dot on " promp me each time to choose an action"

this should fix your probleme

Turns out it was a hardware problem, either the head/controller is not
aligned correctly or malfunctioning or the laser dies etc... Installed new
DVD-ROM and I'm back in busines.

Thanks.

Seems that the probnlem was hardware . Either the head/controller was
misaligned or malfunctioning or the laser dies etc... Installed new DVD-ROM
and I'm back in business.

Thanks.
