not a valid win32 application

after reinstalling xp pro 2600 I am having trouble
installing software, get a "not valid win32 application"
message. various games and printer utilities etc. all
the same. (they use to work fine and still do on 2nd
computer) have checked for virus with current panda
titanium. Any Ideas?
