Norton Problem

RC1 will not load as an upgrade to XP because it tells me I must first
uninstall Norton's programs. I have done everything I can, including a
search and destroy using regedit for the terms Symantec and Norton but it
still reports that Norton programs must be uninstalled. Any suggestions?

Richard.

Ah! The joys of using Norton/Symantec "anything".

They have an uninstall/remove utility on their web site. How many other
companies have, or need, such a utility?

But, if you have already tried to remove it as you have, reports are that
the removal utility does not work.

You should have used it at the beginning. But, how were you to know that you
can't uninstall it through the normal means.

In the past I have had to nuke computer systems to remove all traces of
Norton. It is as bad as AOL.

It's not that Symantec or Norton are bad products. They aare excellent at
what they do.

Beyond that though, you should be able to find manual uninstall instructions
on their site. I could give you a link, but there are many versions and each
is a bit different.

Success: I used regedit to search and remove all lines related to Norton and
Symantec. Then I found as yet another folder under program files with more
Norton files, which I removed.

This let me start the update to Vista program, but it reported an error
after about 25 min of install and aborted. I'll try again when I have the
time.

Richard.
