I use Norton Ghost 2003 on my notebook. They software is installed not
used from a boot disk. When I start the Norton ghost program and
choose to reload an image it asks weather I want to overwrite Windows.
I normally do this.
With the older versions of Ghost run from a floppy all of the contents
of C drive was overwriten, with this version I am not sure what is not
overwriten as I have made changes to the registry and boot.ini file,
reloaded an image and these changes are still there.

Does anyone know much about this? Is there a log of what Ghost does?

Thanks.

Wouldn't this be a question for Ghost rather than for
Windows 2000? I would check the FAQs for Ghost.
Maybe there is a newsgroup for Ghost questions.

You are using the software wrong !

You need to create a Ghost Boot Disk and use the DOS version of Ghost. The whole idea of a
perfect restoration is that the current OS is NOT running when being restored.

In addition...
If you post to UseNet with your TRUE, not a munged, email address then you have now invited
the Swen worm to visit you.

The Swen is news spelled backwards. The reason it is called this is because the Swen worm
harvests email addresses from UseNet News Groups. It has an engine that allows it to post
itself to UseNet News Groups and well as it has its own email engine. From the list of
email addresses that it has harvested, it will then email itself to those addresses.

Hi

Thanks for the info on the worm. I wasn't aware of how e-mail
addresses were obtained but I knew not to use my real address.

I'm not sure if you have used this version of Ghost before but when
you choose the option to reload an image, it reboots the computer to
DOS twice, Windows is not running.

Regards

I use Ghost 2003 at home and I use Enterprise Ghost v7.0 at work.

Hi

So what you are saying is that even though the program starts from
Windows and goes to a DOS prompt it still hasn't really quit out of
Windows properly and therefore the image reloading is not as clean as
if it had been run from a boot disk?

Sean

Yep !
