Norton Firewall 2005

I currently have XP Pro SP2 installed. I had norton internet security 2003
installed and everything worked fine. However, when I installed norton
internet security 2005 my computer takes about 120 seconds versus 20 seconds
to go from the wecolme screen to when all the icons are displayed. I traced
this to the firewall. Is there a setting that will speed this up? When I turn
off the firewall everything works like it did.

I am also using a cable modem going through earthlink. Has anyone
experienced the same type of slowdown? Is there a cure for it or do I need to
go back to NIS 2003?

Maybe I am missing something here, but you installed a Symantec product and
began experiencing trouble and you are asking in the Windows XP newsgroups?

What happens when you uninstall NIS 2005?
I assume your Windows Firewall is turned off or does NIS 2005 now work WITH
the Windows Firewall?
I also assume you have run liveupdate for NIS since you installed it?

I am at my wits end. Yes I did try to contact Symantec, but they were no
help. I am just trying to figure out if anyone else has run into the same
problem and if so what did they do to solve it.

I heard that Norton and Mcafee both hog processor time.
That's why I am using Zone Alarm.

Another example of someone "spewing" something he "heard".
If you cannot contribute factual evidence, it is better not to contribute at
all.

I am using Norton products on all of my computers. It does not hog
resources.

I use Nortons and have no problem on the processor, only processor hog I
have running (by choice) is Seti@home.
