Win-XP pro. NAV from Norton System Works 2002.

Script blocking service is "automatic" but doesn't seem to be started
when the system starts. It will start when told to do so manually,
but about 10 seconds later it stops.

Have searched previous posts (this issue seems to date back to at
least late 2001) but can't find any satisfactory answer. Some posts
indicate it has something to do with script-blocking interferring with
IIS or web server functionality. I am not running IIS or any such web
server on this particular box.

Is it normal for the script-blocking service to be "stopped", even
when it's set to automatic? Is it normal for it to stop when started
manually? (just what is stopping it when it is started?).

Check with Symantec and / upgrade to a newer version of NAV. It may be
that hacker/viruses now can disable it.

What on earth does this have to do with ASP and databases?

Hello,

Sounds like your problem has nothing to do with IIS (you said it yourself),
or ASP DB.

Please contact Symantec about problems with their products.

I noticed the same thing, so I went to Symantec's website and tested my
Script Blocking. Sure enough, it was working fine. I think the service
only starts when there is an actual script to block.

And don't crosspost; it just annoys people.

Aaron Bertrand [MVP] rambled on in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general:

It stops when it has nothing to do. In other words it's normal.
