Norton 2007 sucks!

Roundtable

Anyway, so as usual every year I bought my Norton and installed AND
registered it
online in January.
In February I changed my internet provider from Cablecom to Swisscom.
(I'm a Brit living in Switzerland)

Already in January this worm called Driveclean kept popping up and
telling me that the "sex-pages" (like Shakespeare websites) I was
loking at would leave traces on my PC, and should it scan, etc.

Then a few days ago a window popped up saying User32.exe had been
illegally transferred and was occupying another address, and my system
wouldn't work, etc.

All this time, my Norton Liveupdates were blithely telling me tha my
PC
was absolutely healthy.

(See how they lie to us - they lie!)

So I googled and then got onto the Microsoft page which suplied a
download patch to solve the User32.exe (which happens to be a Trojan)
problem, downloaded it....

and now my Norton has shut down and told me my subscription had
expired!

So I deleted it from my PC and re-installed it yesterday, and it told
me
I had another 299 days to go...

And today my PC was slow to start, had to re-start about 8 times, etc.
and my Norton told me my subscription had expired completely.

So I removed it and installed a different, free anti-virus programme
and
on Tuesday I'm going to take the Norton package back to the shop and
I'd like to find those Symantic guys and fling the whole thing into
their
ugly faces.

But of course they have no mail address and their telephone number
apparently doesn't even work. And costs 16 Euros, the cheeky buggers!

Instead of Easter-holidaying, I've spent a total of 8 hours trying to
fix my PC.

But otherwise, I'm fine.

Get rid of that Norton rubbish and get F-Secure at www.f-secure.com
You won't regret it.

Of course, you are preaching to the choir here. I have NIS 2004 installed
but I have disabled auto-protect and personal firewall. I am using privacy
control and intrusion detection. The last time I checked they wanted $40
(US) to upgrade to NIS 2006. I have AVG Free installed and Windows Firewall
enabled.

Boy, you're quite a belly-acher, aren't you? If all you do is go round
posting this all the time, you really need to get a life. Or a job. Or
both.
You're acting like a 5 yr old throwing a tantrum.

Oh yeah.

Norton *is* a virus. You may need to spend some time hunting down and
removing it - it does not leave willingly.

AVG Free, Zone Alarm free.

Roundtable,

First of all I disagree that Norton is rubbish but I know of one other
person who had the same problem as you did. My advice to them was to use the
FREE Live Help from Symantec Support who will help you with this issue.

http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/support/productdetail/index.jsp?pvid=nav_2007

Then click the 'Contact a Symantec Support Representative'. You should get
the option to speak to a Live Help representative.

Why on earth did you go to a shop & buy Norton? Go to Ebay & pay £10 for it
with a years subscription from someone with 100% feedback only

I use the corporate version of the symantec applications & they are awesome.
Never, ever had a problem in the 7 years I have been using them.

You stated that you use Live Update. Well that comes out weekly usually
around 9pm UK time on a Tuesday/Wednesday. If you want to be totally
up-to-date then install the virus files from the Symantec Intelligent
Updater on a daily basis. It will prove to be worth it. Here's the link to
the intelligent updater download page:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html

Just choose your version, click the 'download updates' button & then scroll
down to the second file that ends in i32.exe & install that.

Not sure in the home products but in the corporate version you can choose to
scan in memory threats & for adware...

Is Auto-Protect set for 'all files' & what setting do you have it set for on
bloodhound?

Seems to me you haven't configure Norton correctly & that is why you have
left yourself open.

-----------------------------

One of the other users suggested you install AVG free. Don't do it. Not sure
if the latest version is ok, but version 7 came with its own adware/BHO. You
have to pay for their free software somehow. Certainly don't install
McCrappy software either.

All the best & good luck,
