Non Domain Members DNS Problems

We currently have 2 Windows2000 DCs functioning as DNS servers. The DNS
servers are AD integrated. We have a handful of MACs and a handful of
windows lab machines that are not on the domain. When the MACs and the
non-domain machines attempt a name lookup against the 2 windows 2000 servers
it doesnt work. Issuing an nslookup name.domain.com against either of the
DNS servers from a non-domain machines returns in a 'Server Failed' error
message. How do I get around this?

Check the DNS suffix of these clients. Make sure it matches that of the zone that holds they records they are looking for. Also, in the NSLOOKUP command,
when you make a FQDN query, make sure that you add a trailing "." period to the end of the query. Without it, it may try to append the DNS suffix to the end of
your FQDN query.
