What is this, please?

Mary

It's a character that displays as a space, but doesn't allow Word to insert
an automatic line break there if it comes near the end of the line. For
example, if you want to prevent a person's first and last names from
appearing on separate lines, you can insert a nonbreaking space
(Ctrl+Shift+spacebar) instead of a regular space.

You can tell the difference between a regular space and a nonbreaking space
by displaying nonprinting characters (click the ¶ button on the toolbar). A
regular space is shown as a small dot, while a nonbreaking space is shown as
a small circle.

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm for more
about nonprinting character display.

Thank you for that.

Yes, I did that and saw the symbols but couldn't understand the function :-)
Now that I understand it could be useful.
