sounds like the reason
that space is not allocatable
is because that document is
actually on it but as you discovered
not accessible.
however what may have happened
is that the file system for that
cd did not or could not
record that "file" in its table
of contents.
when something like this occurs
on a regular harddrive, one
can usually repair the file
system with a check disk, e.g. chkdsk
command
but cd's are a bit different and
there are a variety of software
that read write and format cd's.
so it is unclear if this is a hardware
problem or one that resulted from
your software.
what you should try the next time
is to ensure the cd is formatted
and if possible locate a feature in
your software that verifies the
read writes to the cd.....
