sounds like the reason
that space is not allocatable
is because that document is
actually on it but as you discovered
not accessible.

however what may have happened
is that the file system for that
cd did not or could not
record that "file" in its table
of contents.

when something like this occurs
on a regular harddrive, one
can usually repair the file
system with a check disk, e.g. chkdsk
command

but cd's are a bit different and
there are a variety of software
that read write and format cd's.

so it is unclear if this is a hardware
problem or one that resulted from
your software.

what you should try the next time
is to ensure the cd is formatted
and if possible locate a feature in
your software that verifies the
read writes to the cd.....

another thing that
came to mind is to
ensure your cd is
formatted with the
proper file system.

possibly the cause
of your issue may
have been to coping
a document on a cd
that was formatted
for music...

just a thought to
consider as you
look over your
steps and configuration.

How did you copy that file to the CD? What software was used? Was this
done on a different computer from the one on which you are trying to read
it? If so you will need the same software installed that burned the CD.

Also look at isobuster to see if it can read the disk.

Lastly recover the file from a backup. All important files should have
backups.
