Noise from a P4PE

I have been getting horrible startup noise on my P4PE. It goes away
after a few minutes but worries me nonetheless. Two distinct
sounds--one I have localized to the fan on the video card--the other is
much louder and malicious sounding. Any suggestions would be
appreciated. The system runs silently and flawlessly in WIN 98SE and
WIN XP (Dual boot configuration).

System: (custom)

ASUS P4PE with 512 mb ram (DDR 333)
Pentium 4 2.4 at 533 fsb (locked)
PNY 5600 (nvidia) with 256 mb ram
Western Digital Hard drives (120 gb and 40 gb)
Sony cd burner (52 24 52)
Sony cd rom 52x

Thank you John

My video-card fan (a 4200 card) also gives terrible noise when I start
my system (very unbalanced fan I think), get OK after a while...

Also I can hear the fan of my P4 2.33 CPU very well, but normal

Can't see what else could make a noise

Have you tried taking of the cover to localize the sound ?

The motherboard itself has no moving parts so it's obviously not making the
noise itself. Have you checked the power supply fans and the harddrives?
