My PC shows Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
...but the PC upstairs (which I am trying to connect to) shows:

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast

What is Node Type?

Hi Patrick,

Node type refers to the manner in which NetBIOS names are resolved to IP
addresses. Changing the Value data of the DWORD Value DhcpNodeType to 0 will
result in Unknown being displayed for Node type, though I think (and I could
be mistaken) that it will default to Broadcast when set to Unknown.

Perhaps a better newsgroup for your networking questions would be:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web
