No Workbook on open

When I open Excel I am presented with a blank screen and have to hit the
"New" icon to start things off.

This occurred when I customized my default Book/Worksheet after I'd
switched to Off2000 and W2KPro.
I never had a problem doing this with Off '97 running on W98SE nor XP
(my kid's machine - I always get the old stuff!).
I went thru the Help and tried moved the Book, Sheet and Personal XLT's
to a separate directory and changing the Startup directory but no dice.
Everything works just great except for this one (minor) annoyance.
(I'm annoyed more that I can't figure it out than anything else!)

I keep getting the feeling that I'm missing something very simple and
have "traveled" through the "Options" looking for a hint.

Ideas??

How do you start excel?

If you created your own shortcut icon (or maybe your kid was being helpful),
right click on the shortcut and select properties.

If it looks something like:
c:\msoffice\office10\excel.exe /e

Then remove the "/e". That parameter tells excel to not open a new workbook
when it starts.

I know you said that you tried moving stuff out of the XLStart folder and it
didn't help.

If you've upgraded a few times, you may have multiple XLStart folders to play
with.

And if none of this helped, you may want to review some notes that Chip Pearson
has at:

Thanks Dave.

Your comment about "...you may have multiple XLStart folders to play
with." was the culprit in that I got confused (happens more and more
lately). I placed a workbook template that contains several of my own
utility macro's in the same startup directory where the "Book.xlt"
template was located (vs an alternate startup directory). Appears as
though Excel couldn't decide which one to open so it opened nothing (my
interpretation). As soon as I moved my macro template out of the
directory "poof" I was back in action.

Again, thanks for the links and hints (made me sit back and think).
