Ok heres a good one- works kinda like credit. I dont know how why or what
happened- went to sign into msn- told me to download Internet explorer from
internet explorer-so i went to windows update and received message that I am
not running a windows OS. Ok I have been running XP home for 5 months- Where
did it go and how do I get it back. Will not let me get windows updates. So I
was able to get IE6 downloaded only for me to get a message that says I have
a newer updated version setup aborted. I have run xp2 and runs all the way
through no problems running or installing- no error messages but same result.
Can someone help me? PLZ Im goin nuts over here.

That's a symptom of a problem with your User-Agent string

<title>KB817144 - "Thank You for Your Interest in Windows Update"
Message When You Connect to the Windows Update Web Site</title>

If you need more help post the results from entering this script fragment
in an IE Address bar:

javascript:navigator.userAgent

(It's case sensitive so pasting it may be best.)

Another possibility is that the User-Agent is being prepared properly
but is being interfered with when it is sent (e.g. some security products
do that). Here is a link to a site which could help you check for that case:

(Choose Browser Headers once you allow it to Proceed.)

So I
was able to get IE6 downloaded only for me to get a message that says I have
a newer updated version setup aborted. I have run xp2 and runs all the way
through no problems running or installing- no error messages but same result.

You can NOT install IE6 into XPsp2. A newer version of browser
functionality is built into your OS. Related to your User-Agent:

javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion

You should see:

;SP2;
