No video signal

D

David Kistner

I bought a new case and transferred everything to it including the power
supply. I powered up and there wasn't a video signal. Here's what I've
tried so far that didn't help:
- Double-checked all connections
- I disconnected everything except for the mb, RAM, PS
- Tried a different power supply (in fact I tried 2 PS's that work
fine in other machines)
- Tried a different video card (tried 3 that I KNOW work fine)
- Tried the monitor on another machine (worked fine)
- Tried another monitor on this machine (doesn't work)
- Tried a set of RAM that worked fine in another computer
- Tried the RAM in another computer and it worked fine
- Tried a different motherboard entirely w/integrated video

I don't hear a post of the MB, but the fans and HD powerup. But no
video. Man, I'm REALLY frustrated. Any ideas what could be happening?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably a bad mb. Try the new case psu and video on another mb.
Make sure your new case m/b CMOS reset jumper is in the normal position.

I tried another mb that worked fine in another case. It won't post in
this case.

Just for grins, I'd take everything out of the new case and set it up on the
desktop making sure you set the motherboard on a non-conductive surface.
This takes the case itself out of the equation.
hook everything up and verify that it all works outside of the case.
If it does, then that tells you that 'something' about mounting everything
in the case ain't quite right.
Perhaps one of the MB standoffs is in the wrong place and is shorting
something on the MB.

Yes great idea maybe something isn't grounded properly in the case.

Bottom line, were it me I'd exchange the case for another. Not much
sense to fix a continuing problem for something that should work out of
the box.

Idiot, it is not the case it is a defective technician. You could put
the mobo in a trash can and it will work as long as you know how to
hook it up. The whole problem should be addressed by RTFM.

.................................

Normally I'd agree with you. But all I did was transfer from one case
to another -- I changed nothing. I've built a lot of computers over
several years (including a number with this exact MB combo. Never a
problem.

Since my original post the PS died. I'm thinking it probably toasted my
MB, and then the 2nd MB too. It was a good quality 430w Antec, and was
working fine for 2 years in the original case. It seemed fine when I
powered it up in the new case....but obviously it was about to die.

Thanks to everyone for trying to help me. Bummer week :-(

Aww d00d. Yeah the psu can toast the board. Sorry to hear it.
Merry Christmas, eh.

It is further alleged that on or about Wed, 28 Dec 2005 12:45:21
-0500, in alt.comp.hardware.pc-homebuilt, the queezy keyboard of
"Spike" <[email protected]> spewed the following:

No ****ing way, it's part of my charm. But you, my little ****toad,
should stop top poasting, it makes you look even more the idiot.
