no users, no administrative password

I have a client whose computer was set up with no passwords. I want to
remote desktop to it, but I can't because it won't let it happen with
no users. My question is, If I set up an administrative password on
this computer, will the user still have access to his documents and
settings? Will he still be able to log in as a user without a password?
Or is he logging in as administrator with no password? I am feqr I will
really mess stuff up if I set up an administrative passsword.

You can create an additional user account that has a password to use and add
it to the local administrators group if need be. Using that user account
will not affect another users ability to access their documents, etc. Every
XP operating system has at least two users - guest and administrator though
administrator may be disabled to regular logon but be available in Safe
Mode. You have to enable access for Remote Desktop before it can be used by
logging on as an administrator and going to Control Panel/system/remote. By
default members of the administrators group can access RDP but you can add
other users. You can use the command users to quickly see a list of users on
the computer and net localgroup administrators to see members of the local
administrators group. --- Steve
