WHen I boot up and it goes to the login screen I don't have a username login
icon to click on. I tired to fix it by booting to cd and doing an automatic
repair where it installs the files. I gave a new username but nothing shows
up.

I tried to look at things through the recovery console but my admin password
does not work. I'm trying tat the minimum to get to the c prompt.

Boot to safe mode, log into the hidden administrator account, do a system
restore to a time when the users were still listed. They should come back.

When you boot to Safe Mode, open User Accts, check Use Welcome Screen and
uncheck Fast User Switching. You should Run this command: control
userpasswords2 and make sure "Users must enter a password and name...." is
checked. If you have Tweakui, check the Logon settings there, too.

When I try this I have the same problem. It goes to safe mode bu then goes
to the username login screen and I have no icons to click on.

When you boot to safe mode you should see the hidden user account called
administrator. If you don't try hitting ctrl-alt-del twice while on the
welcome screen. This should make the old style win2k login box come up and
you can log in as user: administrator - password: blank, unless you changed
it.
If you were using the hidden admin account for daily use(you didn't create a
new user for yourself to use), then it possible that the admin account has
become corrupt, in which case you'd need to do a repair install. This is why
you create a user for yourself to use and leave the hidden admin account for
a "just in case" user account.
