When I try to go to Standby, I get the following message."Dell Enhanced
QuietKey P52 with Dell touch" is preventing machine to go into Standby. How
do I update this driver?

Check the Dell site for an updated keyboard driver. Directions for
installing a new driver should be posted at the download site.

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for your advice.
I tried downloading the driver (and the instructions were pretty difficult
to follow) but it was all to no avail. I guess I can live without Standby.

You're welcome, Claire. Unfortunately, this is common with desktop systems.
If you were to use the keyboard with the generic keyboard driver in XP
(uninstall the dell drivers), standby *might* work and you would lose
functionality of the extra keys on the keyboard.

Thanks again, Sharon. I guess I'll just get along without standby. Who
needs it anyway?

My Computer | Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | Keyboard (yours) |
Power Management

Remove check for "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".
Then do the same for your mouse!

Hello Richard,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I got as far as my Keyboard. I clicked on the one that I was directed to
upgrade and was told that the device is working properly. So that's that I
guess.

No! No!

Did you go to the "Power Options" tab under your keyboard. You have to
double click on YOUR keyboard to bring up the new window!

Hi Richard,
I don't go to "Power Options". When I double click on my Keyboard "Dell
Enhanced QuietKey PS2 with Dell Touch" I go the next window which still
tells me that it's working properly. So go fight city hall! Thanks for your
help but it seems like I'm in a hopeless situation. To tell you the truth, I
don't think I really need Standby.

Claire, Richard is talking abut different power options.

They're in the properties of devices listed in Device Manager. For
keyboard: Device Manager> Keyboards> your keyboard: Right click on your
keyboard and select properties. If there is a Power Management tab
(different than Power Options), remove the check mark for the keyboard.

Not sure I would remove the one for the mouse at the same time. Would want
to test if the standby issue was gone first. Also, if you change it, you
would need to figure out how you were going to exit standby if both
keyboard and mouse are not allowed to do this function.... no suggestions.

In my opinion, standby really isn't that useful on a desktop. I let my
monitors rest and that's it.

Thanks Richard and Sharon,
I get neither Power Options nor Power Management. All I get is the
assurance that it's all working properly. So I think we can just close the
subject of Standby and I'll go on with my life without it. Thanks again.
