NO sound

I've posted before, I'll try it again. I have no sound
on my system. Sound card is on-board AC97. There are no
error messages in the device manager, I've loaded the new
driver from Microsoft updates (although the sound quit
working before that). I've disabled in my BIOS, booted,
shut down, re-enabled in my BIOS, re-booted, and still
nothing. I've disabled the device in my device manager,
booted, enabled, rebooted, and NOTHING changes. I'm not
finding any system errors. I can't restore to an earlier
date because the system says that restore could not go
back, no changes made to the system.
I have a TV tuner in my computer, and when I plug into
that I can hear the audio for the TV, but no system
sounds there either. When I plug back into my soundcard,
No TV or system sounds.
I've checked my registry, the HKEY all have the right
settings (value not set).
I've done Start -> Run -> services.msc The audio is
enabled there.
There are no fixes for my problem at Kelly's Korner.
I've tried, and that ain't it.

Any help is appreciated. The only thing I can think of
that may have happened in the between the sound working
and not working is that I upgraded to Win Media Player
9. I think it was after that that it quit working.

Additionally, try a different set of speakers. Make sure the connectors
are in the right places and securely plugged in. If changing speakers
doesn't work, then put in a pci sound card - you can get them for as
little as $15usd. But check the speakers and any headphones you have
first. If you have headphones and they have a mute and/or volume switch
on them, check to make sure you have the sound turned up. I'm not
saying this to insult you - this very thing just happened to my son!
