My speakers are plugged in, but i am not hearing any sound comming out of
them. I also plug in my earphones, and there is no sound comming out of them
either. I have recently installed a new copy of windows xp, and have few
programs now.

Does anyone know what happened?

Check if your soundcard is plugged correctly.
Open Control Panel, go to system, on the system window go to Hardware
tab, choose Device Manager. From there see if your soundcard has the
right driver and it is working correctly.

Reinstall the audio driver.Visit the manufacturer's site to download and
install the latest driver.

I went to the device manager, and my C-Media AC97 Audio Device has a yellow
circle with an exclimation mark on it, I then tried to re-install it and the
computer seems to recognise that it found the software, because a thing
popped up saying that the computer found new hardware on it. Then it says
that something happened and that the hardware might not work properly. When i
select the audio device from the list, it says that the device cannot start
(Code 10). Please Help!

If i go to Control Panel/ Sounds, speech and audio devices/ Ajust the system
Volume, It says that i have no audio device found. Regarding to what Charlie
wrote, i do not know what driver i need.

That's because the driver is bad or possibly the wrong one. Windows
sometimes misidentifies things and although the sound card (Or built in
chips in the motherboard) may show as one system it's not unknown for this
to be caused by Windows trying to install the wrong driver :)

http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/viaac97.html has another driver that
looks possible, what make is the computer (Or motherboard if it's one
someone built up for you) and did this problem start suddenly or have you
just installed XP ?

I installed that driver you told me about, and now i have two audio codecs,
and two other things. It also installed this "Vinyl Deck" and when i click on
the right and left speakers they play a sound. That proves that my speakers
are plugged in correctly. Now it also plays iTunes music, If i find anything
else with my sound, i will be sure to contact you... thank you soooooooo
much:D

Sorry to butt in here, but I have no sound also. I have a Dell 2400. I have
to install the driver everytime after I start up. Then it works fine, but
when I boot off, and start up again, I have to re-install. It says the sound
driver is working properly. I was told it might be in the motherboard?
