No Sound when Playing DVD's

Just installed a DVD burner. Runnig windows XP Home and Media Player 9.0.
Movies boot up ok and play fine but, I have no sound. I have to go to tools,
options, DVD, advanced and then select the two speakers. When done, it never
makes the apply button available. The problem is, I have to do this each and
everytime I start up Media player. Any suggestion?
