I had to unplg the Palm pilot recarger as we are leaving
for vacation. Everything was OK until after that I had no
sound. I checked all of the plugs wires, pink and green on
the tower everything is connected. I have a Gateway 7000x
It is a monster but the Gateway people want me to back up
everything( which is TONS) and reinstall XP. How could
this happen? HELP!!!!!
.
Before you do that. Do this...
Turn the machine off. Unplug the cord... Open the case.
unfasten and remove the sound card.
Leave the case open. Plug it back in and start her up.
The go to start/control panel...double click system. If
you don't see it... Look to the right and click clasic
view.
Now from the tabs click Hardware. Click the botton device
manager in the device manager group.
make sure no sound card devices are installed in
the "sound, video and game controllers" catagory. If
there are hilight them and click uninstall.
Restart your machine.
look again in the system for installed devices and remove
them.
resart again and check if it keeps comming back you might
have an onboard sound chip. If so click the device it
device manager and disable it.
Okay assuming the other device if there was one or no
device is there when you restart... Shut it down Unplug
it... Put the card back
Plug it in and restart. The device should reload. you may
need your resource disk or driver disk.
Wala you should have sound again.
