No sound sending mail or receiving

M

Hi:
I've finally been able to find a way to get a new thread started. Just that
was a chalange. (Might not be spelled right)
I have not been able to get the sound to work with Windows mail when I'm
writing a message using stationery with music nor when I receive mail with
stationery that has music. I've tried everything I can figure othink of ut
but without success.
Can someone help me with this? I can see that I'm going to be visiting these
newsgroups a lot since I now have VISTA. That's all I'm saying about it.
Please help. Thanks

You may have to lower your security settings in order to get
embedded sounds to work.
In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Options, Security, select the Internet
zone, and uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."
Also uncheck "Do not allow images and other external..."

Thanks but I guess I didn't explain my problem well enough. I get the chime
that notifies me of new messages when they arrive but when there is
statironery sent with music background I can not get the music. I also use
stationery with music in the background but I can't get it to play while I'm
writing my messages using the stationery nor can I hear it when I open the
message that's been saved in my 'sent' messages. I don't kinow how to correct
this problem.

Thanks, I followed you advise but there is no security tab when I do go to
options. Now what do I do and why isn't there a security tab there?
Thanks again but I need more help I guess.

Are you clicking on Tools in the main Windows Mail screen instead
of the window it opens when you start a new message?

What *do* you see when you go to Tools, Options?

Also, when you go to Help, About..., does it say Windows Mail or

To start with, it's Windows Live Mail. The tabs in Options are: Gereral,
Read, Receipt, Send, Compose, Signatures, Spelling, Connections, Advanced.
What is the difference between Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail and how is
it determined which is available to who or whom? English and spelling are not
my strong points.

That explains the confusion. The newsgroup you posted to is mainly
for support of the Windows Mail program. Windows Live Mail (WLM) has
its own support newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

For WLM, the path to the settings I mentioned previously is as follows:
Tools, Safety options, Security.

Windows Mail is available only with Vista and runs only on Vista. WLM
is a newer program which was released only a couple of months ago.
It can be downloaded for free, and it runs on XP as well as Vista.

I've tried everything you've suggested and still have the same problems I had
prior to writing for help. I still can not get the sound to work in the
stationery nor can I get new stationery to download into my stationery
folder. All of the stationery I use has music in the background as well as
the stationery used to write to me. I can not get the music to work. I can
hear it when I'm at the stationery site and previewing the stationery. The
problem has to be with the WLM. My sister is getting the sound on her end
both when she is writing her message to send to me as well as when she is
ready the message I send to her. She also has VISTA but i don't know if
she's using WLM, which I am using, or WM.
I do not understand why I can't dowload the ZIP or EXE stationery either. I
have followed the instructions you suggested but that didn't help. I have the
security set to low so what now? I'm so aggravated with not being able to get
these programs to work correctly and don't know what to do about it.
Thanks for your help.

In my opinion, WLM is better because it has benefitted from a longer
development period. Several bugs that exist in WM have been fixed
in WLM. WLM also has additional features not found in WM, such as
Hotmail access, and auto-correction of commonly misspelled words.

The user interface is different, and some people prefer one program
over the other simply because of how the look and feel suits them.

In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Options, Security, select the Internet
zone, and uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."
Also uncheck "Do not allow images and other external..."

Thanks

Understood, but we had reached the limits of what little I know about
that specific topic. :)

Merry Christmas.

Thanks Gary: I didn't want to post in that newsgroup since you were helping
me in this one but I will go ahead and do that. I appreciate your help.
Merry Christmas

Unfortunately I am not a stationery expert, and I have never
used stationery or embedded sound myself.
Another responder who is more familiar with this topic may
offer his services, or you can post this question in the WLM
newsgroup:

What *do* you see when you go to Tools, Options?

Also, when you go to Help, About..., does it say Windows Mail or
Windows Live Mail?

Thanks, I followed you advise but there is no security tab when I do go to
options. Now what do I do and why isn't there a security tab there?
Thanks again but I need more help I guess.

You may have to lower your security settings in order to get
embedded sounds to work.
In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Options, Security, select the Internet
zone, and uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."
Also uncheck "Do not allow images and other external..."

Hi Linda, I have spent hours and hours trying to get the stationery
working properly in WLM. First of all, I do net even see where I can
add music, and that was one of the main reasons why I installed WLM.
So maybe you can help me just get started on that one. But I can't
get my background showing on the mail that I send. I have tried
sending through Hotmail, Yahoo, and our local ISP, and nothing works.
The other images do go through.

I have spent so much time on the internet trying to find answers, but
to no avail. I first of all downloaded an email client with beautiful
stationery called Mokum Mail, but get the images to got rhought at all
on that. You can also add music on Mokum Mail, but as I say, nothing
works.

I hope you van give me a few tips.

Thanks,

Karin

PS I have Windows XP, but my husband has Vista on his pc, and it does
not work either.
