no sound notification for new emails in Outlook 2007 SP1

Could someone tell me why Outlook doesn’t play a sound when I receive a new
message?

The “play a sound†option is enabled under the advanced e-mail options, and
using the test button it works fine. However, when receiving new emails,
Outlook doesn’t play a sound, nor does it display the new mail notification
(also enabled and tested).

Is this a bug or are there any additional settings that need to be enabled?

I look everywhere and searched online help et all, but can’t find anything
else that I haven’t already enabled.

All help would be much appreciated

I am having exactly the same problem with Outlook 2003. Wonder if
un-installing and re-installing the software would work as my indicators used
to work?
