no sound from speakers

I have installed windows XP professional and there is no sound from my
speakers.
When I go into sounds and audio devices through the control panel, it
says no audio device.

Any hints. Thanks

You need to install the driver for the sound device. If this is an OEM
computer install it from the driver's CD if you received one. If you don't
have the CD go to the computer manufacturer's web site and download the
driver. If it's a retail sound card go to the card manufacturer's web site
for it. If it's an on board sound device get the driver from the
motherboard manufacturer's web site.
