no sound after upgrade to XP /w SB Live! sound card

Following my upgrade to Windows XP from Windows ME I had
no sound coming from my computer. I have a Creative Labs
SB Live! sound card which according to the windows
diagnostic is operating properly. After testing my sound
card, I checked my speakers, which appear to be properly
installed. I downloaded the latest driver pack for SB
Live. Nothing I have tried works. Do I need a new sound
card?

Hello

What you need to do it remove all drivers for your SB card and reboot
your pc, let Win XP try and find the card on it's own, it should or may
or may not prompt you for drivers, in any case make sure that you have
the correct drivers(which you say you downloaded) then re-install
drivers
if XP does not find them.

This is a driver issue.
1) add remove programs>>make sure there are no entries for SBlive.
2) device manager>>uninstall SBlive.
3) shut down the PC and remove the SBlive card.
4) boot up now run CTZAPXX.EXE This will be on the SBlive CD.
5) reboot
6) shutdown and reinstall the SBlive card. XP will pick it up on
boot up.

A Soundblaster Live ought to be fine under XP. (I've used one, although I
current use an Audigy 2.)

I don't suppose that it's something ridiculous like having the output set to
digital (while using analog speakers)? This would be in speaker settings.

Incidentally: it's a bit irritating that Creative doesn't make the full
driver/application package available for download. However, Compaq (HP)
does; it's their Softpaq 21636. (Broadband more or less required; it's
nearly 160 MB.) I didn't have to do anything special to install it on my
non-Compaq system.

HTH.
