No solution?

This is my second posting for this problem. I can't access the microsoft
Update site now. So cannot get updates from Microsoft site, system sometimes
hangs on turn off (have to cut power supply), can only access web if
attempted as part of
powering up. Once fully launched can no longer access web

Error message reads:
Faulting Application svchost.exe version 5.1.2600.2180
faulting module wuaueng.dll version 5.8.0.2469
fault address 0x0007cb9a

Installed and removed 2nd hand scanner/copier/printer just prior to problem.
Tried downloading current drivers to no avail. Tried system restore -
unable to access.

Searching Google for your error message "faulting-module" AND wuaueng.dll
gave some possible solutions, including this one that appears to have fixed
one person getting your error:

========================

Download location for WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264

If it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is
already installed.", run the exe with the command line switch
/wuforce, like this:

WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce

If that doesn't help, see the other Google results for other possible ideas:

Karl,

Thank you very much for your assistance. I've been away interstate for work
and have only now had a chance to try this. I do get the response "install
is not needed since ...." I cannot get it to run by adding '/wuforce' to the
name of the file. I'm showing my ignorance here because I cannot run the
program.

How do I do it? I've tried using 'start run' and inserting
"WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce" without success. I've saved the
program to my desktop and tried renamming it by adding '/wuforce' but nothing
works.

I am really greatful for your assistance on this.

Regards,
Phil

Well, if you're saying you haven't been able to execute /wuforce yet, then
you could drag the executable onto an open "Start / Run" window or onto an
open Command prompt window [e.g. after doing Start, Run, CMD, OK]. You'll
then get the entire path to the executable and can add a space and /wuforce
after it.

Alternatively you could save it to the root of your c:\ drive, and you could
rename the executable to something easier like patch.exe, then at the Start,
Run window you can type in c:\patch.exe /wuforce

Karl,

Again thank you.

I was finally able to run the wuforce command and load it but it made no
difference. I'll try some of the other google results. Again thank you.

Regards,
Phil
