No shut down window

After cleaning up a number of items of spyware, when Start >> Turn Off
Computer is clicked, the log off /shutdown /restart window appears but
clicking on any icon does not start any actions.

The computer shuts down /restarts when the functions within the Task manager
are used.

Would appreciate help in which programs to reinstall /registry keys etc to
correct this problem.


OS is XPPRO with SP@ and all updates
