We host our own DNS on our corporate network. We have
laptop user that have windows xp configure to login to our
domain. When they outside of our corporate network, the
problems starts. This is a infrequent but annoying
problem.

They have trouble connecting to everything on our network
but can get to everything else fine on the internet. I
can get them to tracert, ping and such but no host
resolution. The only fix I found was to remove the PC
from the domain and readded it back in. After that all is
well. All the client is up to date on service pack and
all.

What can I check for.

When you say you host your own DNS, do you mean you're hosting your domain's
public DNS in-house?
How are they connecting from the outside? VPN? You don't just have big old
holes poked in your firewall?
Have you set up the users' computers with a properly configured LMHOSTS
file, or set them up to use your WINS server (presuming you're using WINS)?

Try a HOSTS file with the necessary resource records they need to connect to
on the client PCs or laptops that are outside of the network.
