no prompt for user name and/or password

i'm very unfamiliar with access, i have no idea what i'm doing. i created a
database and set up user security. i have a security wizard report which
tells me my workgroup information, groups, and users. i created a name,
personal ID, password, and groups for myself but as soon as i try to open my
database it says that i do not have the correct permissions. i'm never
prompted to put in my user name and/or password so I'm completely locked out.
Any help with this would be great. Thanks!!

No offense, but that is a scary statement. Security is not trivial to set
up, however from the sounds of things you are using either 2002, or 2003 -
is that correct?

The security wizard likely created a desktop shortcut for you to use to open
your secure database - look for it on your desktop.

Every session of Access uses a workgroup information file (mdw), even for
unsecured databases. Out of the box it uses a workgroup named system.mdw
and silently logs you in as a user named 'Admin'.

This is the workgroup file defined as the default, and you should leave it
as your default.

That is why you are likely getting the message you are; because you are
trying to open your secure mdb and since the default is set to system.mdw,
you don't have permissions to open it, and rightly so. You want to use your
secure mdw to open the mdb.

For a secured mdb, you'd create a desktop shortcut, that would specify a
different (secure) mdw to use just for that session of Access.

The wizard created this for you.

If you don't have a desktop shortcut, post back.

Access security is a great feature, but it is, by nature a complex product
with a very steep learning curve. Properly used it offers very safe
versatile protection and control. However a simple mistake can easily lock
you out of your database, which might require the paid services of a
professional to help you get back in.

Practice on some copies to make sure you know what you are doing.
