No post with ASUS P5AD2-E Deluxe motherboard

Just assembled a new box with the ASUS P5AD2-E Deluxe Motherboard, Pentium 4
570 3.8 Ghz, using Antec NeoPower and OCZ DDR2 memory. So all top shelf
components, all brand new. I am not a novice, and have double checked
connections many times. I used the PowMax power supply tester and the
Antec Power Supply tests out ok.

When I turn on power, the power and HD LED lights just momentarily - like
once for 1/10th of a second. There are no beeps at all and flash codes.
If I had a say a memory error, or cpu error, vga error, keyboard error,
etc - I would expect at least a beep code. Any suggestions as to most
likely culprit and order to diagnose ? (I dont have a spare motherboard,
PCI-E graphics card, or DDR2 memory to just pop in and see where the issue
is - so I would be making multiple trips to return and replace components.)

Thanks for any suggestions.

No kidding this time.

What do you mean by post? I'm not familiar with the term. TIA

Thanks JAD. I am very confident the CPU is properly seated. Memory is
definitely a suspect, but I would think I would get a beep and fans in unit
would at least run. They do not (they start for a split second and stop -
and no beeps at all.)

However, I am now really suspecting my PSU. In my original post, I said it
passed the Powmax test utility. I was looking at it wrong - it does not.
Since my main green LED was on, I thought it was a pass. But, the RED LED
is on, indidicating failure. (I had thought the RED LED was just an
indication it was on.) Further the +5v LED is not on.

However, I am wondering if the PowMax tester which has a 20 pin connector
accurately tests my PSU which has a 24pin connector and is attached to the
tester via an adapter. I am guessing it does and this indicates an error.
It would be nice if the issue is just the PSU. Has anyone here used Powmax
power tester with a 24pin PSU (via a 20pin adpater.) Does a good PSU test
out as all green on the Powmax ?

Thanks.

Sometimes this new ram does not seat well. See if it just
lifts out on one end. Otherwise, sounds like another
ASUS lesson to learn. I swear those mobos are kid
crap. I would not have one if they gave it to me. The
way I decide on mobo failure is to take the mobo
out of the case and set it on the bench with the psupply.
Put in 1 stick of ram, and if you have one, use a little
speaker, else set it near the case to hook up the speaker
and pwr connector. See if it posts. If not, I have almost
always found it to be the mobo. I've never seen an
Antec psupply fail.

OK, Ed, here is the definition.

The computer POST is a Power On Self Test which tests the computer to insure
that it meets the necessary system requirements before booting up. If the
computer fails the POST, then a beep code is sounded to indicate what is
causing the computer not to successfully complete the POST. Generally if the
computer POSTs properly you will receive a single beep. Beep codes for
specific motherboards may be found either in the motherboard manual, at the
motherboard manufacturer's website, or by a Google search.

Regards.

Much appreciated, Papa. I've been relying upon it for years of assembling my
own computers and still was not familiar with the term.
