no performance increase with 3200 RAM

Hi

I have a Pentium 3.4 Northwood with a Intel i865PE MB.
I upgraded the RAM ffrom 1 GB 2700 to 1 GB 3200 and expected an increase in
performance.
However, there was none in either Battlefield 2 or 3D Mark?

Any ideas are welcome thanks

Im not familiar with all the details of that processor. Did you bump
the FSB up and can use the FSB?

Obviously if the processor isnt supposed to be set or cant be
overclocked with a higher FSB to take advantage of the 3200 memory
then you arent going to see any real increase in performance.

What type of video card do you have? If it doesn't share memory, which it
probably doesn't, the majority of the work in done on the card and adding
extra system memory won't help that much.

If it is shared memory, you may need to change a setting to allow for more
memory use.

Get a copy of www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and check the clocks
and memory timing settings. Perhaps things are not set up
optimally. Record the settings with the old RAM in place,
and the settings with the new RAM in place, and post the
details here.

Just because the memory goes 20% faster, does not mean the
whole system will be 20% faster. RAM is only a small
component of the performance picture. But perhaps
when the memory timings are tightened up a bit, you'll
get another couple percentage points.

It would then seem it wasn't the bottleneck. Not
surprising, given same CPU, same FSB rate, and same video
card, memory is usually not the bottleneck at PC2700 or
better speeds. We don't have enough info for a better idea
of your situation though, you didn't mention the video card,
or the scores.
