Hi,

I've got XP Pro on a 2000 SBS network and I was wondering how to have a user
be able to log in without putting
in a password at all, so it goes right to the desktop when you turn it on
but the user is still logging into the domain.

Thanks

Do you want to keep the machine on the domain? If so, you can't without
hacks.

If you want to come off the domain, do just that by right-clicking 'My
Computer' and properties, Computer Name, Change. Put it in a workgroup.

Then reboot, and do 'Start/Run' 'control userpasswords2' and untick the
'user must enter blah blah'

:)

Thanks, the tech before me was able to do it with another w/s in the domain.
I need to keep it in
the domain.

You can do this with several registry hack or with TweakUI XP (part of the
Powertoys for XP.) However, this is not recommended because the user's
domain password is stored as "plain" text in the local registry.

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

From your post, I understand you want to enable to automatic logon to SBS
domain on Windows XP Professional. If I have misunderstood your concerns,
please feel free to let me know.

I agree with Eugene that you may refer to KB 315231 to tweak the registry.
In additional, since you need to logon domain, you may want to add a new
string value named 'DefaultDomainName' and set this to the domain of the
user.
