No pagefile.exe

I applied servicepack 2 and am now receiving an error
message every time I boot that there is no pagefile or the
page file is to small.

What I've done.

Checked permissions on the C: drive for Administrators and
System (Full Control)

Tried changing the page file size, removing the pagefile,
letting the system manage the pagefile.

Booted into safe mode in an attempt to delete the pagefile
(there is no pagefile) I made sure show hidden files and
hide system files were set correctly.

Is there a way to extract a pagefile.sys from the
installation disk?

Thanks I'm stuck.

Pagefile.Sys is dynamically created. There isn't a Pagefile.Sys
in the distribution media. To resolve this, I would do several
operations. First, Turn off the Pagefile temporarily and set
the Dump option to none. Reboot the PC and do a Defrag
on C:\. Next run a Chkdsk C: /R to preclude an disk errors
that are interfering with Pagefile creation. To do this open a
Command Prompt and enter the Chkdsk command and when
asked about performing at next reboot answer Yes.
The Pagefile needs to exist in a Contiguous area on the disk.
(No fragments) If your disk is heavily fragmented, the system
may not be able to find usable space to create it.
After this operations are done, re-create the Pagefile on C:\
with a minimum sizing of 256 Megabyte and a max around
800 megabytes. Reboot and do one final defrag on the drive.

If your motherboard uses the intel chipset you might need to install the
intel accelerator from www.intel.com Check to see if your motherboard is
listed.

See the problems section at my page www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

This I suspect is a result of something you have installed or
reinstalled in association with SP2. And my suspicions focus on some
Symantec product; if you have installed NAV or NIS try *uninstalling*
and see if the problem goes away
