Hi,
I was resetting my cmos (remove battery, swap jumpers, put jumper back,
replace battery) the other day and while putting the jumper back
realised the battery was power-side down on the motherboard - since
then there has been no output to the monitor.
Could I have fried the motherboard? All the usual stuff fans, disk
activity is still happening.

Thank,
Adam

If system still connected to mains, yes you could have shorted
something, but not very likely. Only 5V standby power present. You don't
need to remove battery if using Clear CMOS battery. Try disconnecting
everything except PSU, motherboard and CPU, should beep.

A monitor can't be damaged that way, and I doubt even the chip for the
CMOS memory and clock can be damaged by inserting the battery backward
since there's a diode in series with the battery to protect it when the
motherboard receives voltage from the power supply. I'd try resetting
the CMOS one more time. I'd also check the video card since it can
come unseated easily.
