Just got a new computer. It has Vista and McAfee installed on it. I can
receive email but not send. I have tried the suggestions posted, turn off
scanning, check the required server authentication, and neither of those seem
to make any difference. The error message, which appears to be from McAfee,
says "After you verify the format of your recipient addresses, McAfee
recommends resending". I am certain the addresses I've tried to send to are
correct. Any suggesttions? Thanks.

I know this sounds like a flip answer, but get rid of McAfee !
there are far better security products available and many of them are FREE

AVG and Avast, just to name a few. Norton and McAfee have become so bloated
and intrusive that they tend to cause far more problems than they solve
(IMO)

MacAfee is not compatible with Vista Mail. Suggest that you remove it ASAP . Use the free AVG or Avast. Make sure when you install the one you prefer you do not install it with email integration.

The only way you will stop this error is by removing MacAfee. Disabling the email scanning in it does nothing to solve your present issue

McAfee works fine with my Vista Windows Mail, and Outlook 2007 and Outlook
Express. How can you tell some one it is not compatible as if it's a fact?

Because it is a fact. Some have no problems with it for a while but it will eventually show it's face.
There was a poster a few weeks ago that claimed the same as you. Two days later he posted again that he started to get an issue with his WM client and he could not post anymore but he was able to receive.

Guess what was the issue. Yep, his MacAfee. After removing it he became a believer.
Many posting with this issue have run into the same problem solved with the removal of the AV integration within WM and other email clients

If it were a fact that McAfee was not compatible with Windows Mail, then
everyone would have trouble, this is not true. I've been McAfee since
January, on XP, Vista and Vista x64, on two desktops and two laptops with
zero problems, and I use Windows Mail. I send a lot of email everyday. Sandi
may indeed be having an issue with McAfee, or at least the particular
version she has, but a blanket statement like it's incompatible just isn't
true. I had Norton AV causing one of my 2003 Servers to randomly reboot, but
I still have it on two other identical machines with server 2003, it doesn't
make NAV incompatible with Server 2003 or Dell boxes.
