No Option To Activate XP....

G

Guest

I just recently had to reinstall Windows XP Pro. I have done this approx 9 or
10 times since 2002 - 2003 and have never had a problem when it came time to
activate my copy, which BTW is a "legal" copy. There is no question about
that.

The problem I am now having, I have never had before or seen before, so
needless to say, I find this very strange.

After XP is installed, I am nolonger given any options to activate Windows.

The little keys that always show up in the system tray... they are not
there, simply put there is nothing anywhere that will let me connect throught
the internet to activate and there is no way to activate it over the phone.

There is nothing, and I mean nothing anywhere that will allow me to activate
XP in anyway.

Does anyone have any idea what can be done about this?

As I said I have never had or seen this problem before. I have always used
this copy of XP Pro, and have always been able to activate it, but now I
can't and am left with a copy of XP that I cannot activate, update and will
probably have to re-install every 30 days.

Did you check the Accessories folder? I believe there was an Activate
Windows icon there.

I tried this also. It went through the first part of the "update" process but
stop and says I must activate Windows before I can do anything (I forget the
exact wording).

Looked there, and there is nothing. There is absolutely nothing that will
allow me to activate or even register Windows (BTW, I have already registered
it, a long time ago)

I have just tried that (as of 15 minutes ago). This lead to another problem,
I had to download it from another system, transfer it to the problemed system
and had no problem there... However now it tells me Windows needs to be
activated before I can run the program.

I spoke to a MicroSoft Tech on the phone as I was doing this and have been
told exactly this, and I quote " Sir, you must being making this up, because
MicroSoft products do not have these kinds of problems" .

So what am I to do?

Have you tried to manually run the activation process?

Start > Run > "C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A."

Yes I have tried that. It was one of the things MicroSoft told me to try
when I called them. But it wouldn't work.

Is that your real question?
