No multi-level lists when composing a message?

In previous versions of Outlook, it was possible to format an Outline
Numbered list in a message using Word as the message editor.
In Word 2007, Outline Numbered lists became Multilevel numbered lists but I
can't find how to create them in an Outlook 2007 message.
Am I missing something?

Both the Tab key and Indent command on the ribbon should create multiple
levels under an existing numbered list, which you create by clicking the
Numbering command in the ribbon.

Are you trying to do something special with the formatting of this list? If
so, please give details.

Hi Sue:
The background: I am a moderately advanced user of Office 2002 and 2003,
still pretty much confused with the changed interface of Office 2007.
The issue: with Outlook 2003, I could create a multi-level list in an
Outlook message using Format > Bullets and Numbering > Outline Numbered. With
Word 2007, I can do so from the Home ribbon with the Multilevel List icon.
Outlook 2007 does not have that icon. Word 2007 has a group of three icons
(Bullets, Numbering, Multilevel List) of which Outlook 2007 has only the
first two. I found that I could add the Multilevel List icon to Outlook's
Quick Access Toolbar but that is an awkward solution.
The question: can I make the Multilevel List icon appear in one of the
ribbons of Outlook 2007?

Best regards

Thank you for the additional information. You can add that command, along
with many others, to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) above the ribbon. From
the Customize Quick Access Toolbar menu, More Commands dialog, choose All
commands from the 'Choose Command from' dropdown.

Hi Sue,

I was able to add the multi-level command to the QAT. I also noted it shows
up in the Format tab of the E-mail editor.

However, to take it one step further: I've tried all morning to customize
and SAVE changes to the multi-level list formatting. For instance, if I
change the type bullet used, I can only use the new List Style as long as I'm
in the e-mail I'm composing. Once I start a new e-mail, the list styles have
reverted to the defaults offered by Microsoft.

I have been able to save changes to the Word template, but that's no help
with Outlook since it no longer seems to allow composing e-mails using Word
as the default editor.

Thanks,
Ken

Word is *always* the email editor in Outlook 2007. There is no other editor.
It Create any new styles that you want to use in the Normalemail.dotm
template, which you'll find on Windows XP in the C:\Documents and
Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder. If you need
the Vista location, just let me know.
