No malware in Shareaza?

I have used shareaza for almost a year, installed the previous two versions,
as well as the latest, and it came completely spyware free. I would
recommend it to anyone looking for a p2p app.

Hi Everyone,

I read on http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ that Shareaza (and a
few other P2P programs) do NOT have any kind of malware whatsoever.

Can anyone confirm (or refute) this claim?

Thanks.

I can confirm this also. Shareaza is 100% clean. No adware. No spyware.
No malware.

X-cleaner used to detect "MusikPlay" in Shareaza 2.1.0.0 and earlier
versions. That was a false positive. The problem has been fixed with
Shareaza 2.2.0.0 and 2.2.1.0.

X-Cleaner still detects "Kazaa Media Desktop" in Shareaza. It sees
Shareaza's magnet link registry entries and probably thinks all
filesharing programs are malware. This is another false positive.
Shareaza is clean.

My thanks to everyone who answered my post! I ran AdAware and Spybot on
Shareaza and life is good. I'm keeping Shareaza!

Thanks again!

I am currently running v2.1.0.0.
It is clean.

Cheers,

Thanks for the thanks, and keep in mind that P2P is one of the most common
ways to get infected with malware. Keep your high waders on.

Just FYI, Shareaza is open source, so the chances of it containing
spyware / adware and going undetected for so long are very low.

Mario

Emule is also open source software, adware free.

Shareaza does multiple file sharing networks. Nice, but file sharing
creates a LOT of network traffic and will slow down your computer or
router (has crashed some routers in my experience). If you are on
multiple file sharing networks, even if you are limiting transfers, the
protocol overhead will be great. Better to stick to one network at a
time.

Has anyone not been able to find files in one network, only to find it
on another network? Please describe your experience.
