I just got a new computer with Vista. After downloading all windows updates
I can not longer get on to the user login window. The windows welcome screen
has disappeared. When first turning on the computer I get a screen about the
motherboard and then it logs on to the administrarter account. I never get a
chanch to use the user log on screen. I have two other accounts. Any ideas
on how to get it back? Thanks

go to 'Run', type in 'control userpasswords2' and hit enter.

You will be prompted with the UAC, click 'Continue' and a window 'User
Accounts' will appear. Check 'Users must enter a user name and password....'

Click on 'Apply' and 'OK'. restart your computer and see if you are prompted
to logon.

I had a similar sounding issue with my computer, but it was prior to running
Windows update. Essentially, the driver for my Radeon 9800 (supplied as part
of Vista) was broken, and every logon, unlock, and UAC screen I received
would blank the screen and turn the monitor off (like in your description).

To resolve this (as I set a password on my account), I would just have to
enter the password and press "enter", or in the case of UAC press "C" for
continue completely blind. Once the desktop session loads, the display comes
back.

If your computer is on, but the screen if off, I would suggest trying to
navigate blind and performing a video card driver update as soon as you can.
